The session will interrogate the notion of measuring innovativeness within organizations, drawing upon existing literature that suggests a correlation between product architecture and innovation levels. Through a unique approach, Prof. Deepak aims to establish an empirical relationship between these two factors, leveraging publicly available data from a prominent automobile manufacturing firm in India. The study not only examines the relationship between product architecture and innovation but also proposes implications in two key areas. Firstly, it elucidates how different types of architecture influence a firm's innovative capabilities. Secondly, the methodology proposed in the study holds promise as a competitive analysis tool, enabling firms to gauge the innovativeness of their competitors using accessible data. This session promises to offer valuable insights into the nexus of product architecture and innovation, with practical implications for firms navigating the dynamic landscape of the automotive industry. Discussions on the relevance and applicability of these lessons for FPM scholars in their future roles in academia and industry.
