Prof Vinod Kalia, Professor of Marketing at MDI, has a B.Tech. degree from IIT Delhi and PGDM from IIM Ahmedabad. He is the distinguished recipient of the first “Award for Excellence in Teaching” instituted by MDI in 2004. He received this award again in 2006, and has also received the Best Faculty Award from PGP class of 2007. He has taught courses at IIM Lucknow and IIM Indore as a Visiting Faculty.

Prof Kalia has more than ten years’ experience in academics and teaches different courses in Marketing area. Backed by his industry experience of 25 years in some of the best known organisations at senior, top and CEO positions, Prof Kalia brings a fine blend of conceptual and practical orientation in his work. He was earlier the Chair – Marketing Area and Chair – International Relations at MDI.

Before shifting to academics, he was CEO of Claas India Ltd, a JV of billion dollar Claas KGaA of Germany and the Escorts group, which he turned around and brought into profits. Earlier he headed another JV of Escorts group and restructured the same. In the field of Marketing & Sales¸ Prof Kalia has over 20 years of highly successful experience covering diverse products in organisations such as Eicher group¸ Larsen & Toubro¸ Jubilant Life Sciences/Degussa AG¸ Anand/Gabriel group¸ and Shriram group of companies.Earlier at MDI¸ Prof. Kalia lead for two years the Advanced Management Programme for Top/Senior Level Managers conducted at MDI and its partner Business Schools in Europe and USA.

Prof Kalia has actively been consulted by industry¸ including for executive education¸ by many organisations such as Schneider Electric, BSNL¸ Hero Honda Ltd¸ MacDermid India, Reckitt Benckiser, SRF Ltd, ABB Ltd, J K Organisation, LIC¸ Grasim Industries Ltd¸ etc.

Awards & Honors: 
Prof Kalia has received the Best Faculty Award from students and Awards for Excellence in Teaching from MDI on two occasions.He has authored a book titled “Determinants of Effective Distribution Channels in India: A Study of Select Indian Companies” and has also written a number of management cases on Dettol, Gillette, Harpic, Mattel Toys, Cherry Blossom etc which are used in PGP teaching and MDPs. 

Areas of Interest: 
Prof Kalia’s interests include Distribution Channel Management¸ Sales Management, B2B Marketing¸ Personal Selling and Strategic Marketing. His MDPs have successfully been drawing participants from leading companies from diverse sectors.
