Dr. Mukul Gupta has been with MDI since 2000 as a Professor of Marketing and has held various administrative positions, heading every academic activity at some point in time. It was under his leadership that MDI had become the largest provider for Executive Education amongst all business schools in India and the best globally networked Business School in India. In 2012, he was inducted on the panel of international assessors for global AMBA accreditation.

He is a member of the Executive Board of AMDISA (Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia) for 2013-15. He is also a member of the SAQS (South Asian Quality Assurance System for management education institutions in the South Asia Region) Council.

He serves as a member of the Technical Advisory Committee, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. He is a member of the First Court of the Central University of Haryana. He is also a member of the Executive Council of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science & Technology, Haryana.

He has international consulting experience and has been a member of various policy and academic bodies like Board, I2E  (Idea to Execution) Sawyer Business School, Suffolk University, Boston, USA, Advisory Board, Programs in Healthcare Management & Insurance Studies, School of Business, University of Connecticut, USA, Jury, New Product Innovation Competition, Suffolk University’s Business School, Boston, USA (2008 & 2009), Academy for Global Business Advancement – South Asia Chapter, since 2008.

In a career spanning over 32 years, Dr. Gupta has spent nearly a third of this period in industry. Starting with field selling of industrial goods in the early part of his business career, his corporate experience includes manufacturing and marketing of pharmaceutical products, advertising and consulting. He became the CEO of a corporation at the age of 30 and then decided to move to academics after 5 years in that position.

Before MDI, he has been at International Management Institute, New Delhi, University of Rajasthan and Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He was the head of School and Director of Wits Business School Johannesburg during 2005-06. Thereafter, for six years (2006-12), he was a Visiting Professor as well as a member of the International Advisory Board of Wits Business School, Johannesburg. ). He was also a visiting professor at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein (2009-12) in South Africa. He has taught at Vienna University of Economics & Business Administration in Austria.

His current research and consulting interests are in the areas of Strategic Marketing, Consumer Choice Processes, Integrated Marketing Communications, Distribution Management and Market Research. He is on the editorial board of many journals and an editorial reviewer for ‘Journal of Advertising’ and ‘Global Business Review.’ A prolific writer, he has published 46 research papers in different journals nationally and internationally. His recent writings and research have focused on Franchised Channels in Distribution, Branding, Complexity in Strategy, Organizational Excellence, Political Advertising and Corporate Governance. He has published two books titled ‘Simulating Business through Cases’ and ‘Management Challenges: Today & Tomorrow’. He has written 10 cases that are widely used by business schools in India.

He has extensively traveled on assignments to Australia, Austria, Belgium, Botswana, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, Norway, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.
