ARMED FORCES PROGRAM (AFP), March 2009
 

The Indian Armed Forces represent a large group of well groomed and highly motivated people who are accustomed to work in a system that expects them to set high individual standards and high achievement targets. Officers from the armed forces are known to be self-reliant, innovative, resourceful and highly adaptable and are endowed with courage, motivation, education, selflessness and honesty. They lead and inspire the men working under them to perform extraordinary tasks in impossible situations and under tiring circumstances.

The service officers have the requisite skills backed with discipline and a focused approach to lead a productive life. Those who aspire for a magnificent career in the corporate world need to reorient their skills, attitudes and attributes to manage and capitalize on their inherent potential and experience for value creation.

Objectives of the programme:

  • Enhancing the professional competence of participants in different areas of Management.
  • Developing a general management perspective from the standpoint of a total enterprise.
  • Developing a global mindset to foster a comprehensive understanding of private sector working.
  • Developing appropriate attitudes to enable participants to transit into a second career and be effectively absorbed in the corporate world.

Programme Design:

  • Divided into three semesters of eight weeks each.
  • The first two semesters include fourteen management subjects.
  • In the last semester specialized subject can be selected from six electives.
  • At the end of this intense business education, the participants are fully geared for the work in varied fields, such as:

Pedagogy:

The program would provide a balance of classroom sessions and on-the-job application of concepts learnt in the class. The pedagogy would be participant-centric. It would include cases, group assignments, simulations, business games, role-plays, guest lectures and computer based learning. The emphasis would be on involving participants in learning and helping them to relate concepts to corporate requirements. It will enable them to acquire new skills in dealing with complex issues in the era of globalization of industrial activities and intense competitions that ensues.

The faculty would comprise of a combination of core faculty of MDI and visiting faculty from corporate world to integrate conceptual rigor with real life applications. Participants would also have the benefit of interacting with eminent academics, policy makers and industry leaders to gain a more practical and deeper understanding of current policy and business issues.

AFP-10 began on October 13th, 2008.

Evaluation :

Participants would be evaluated on a continuous basis through quizzes, assignments, tests and examinations. A final examination would be held at the end of each course/term.

Participants would be required to attend classes and minimum attendance required would be 90%. Any absence allowed on medical grounds would be on production of requisite documents from the hospital and absence beyond a point would tantamount to reduction of grade(s) as per MDI rules.

Certificate:

Participants who successfully complete all the requirements for this course would be awarded - Post Graduate Certificate in Business Management (PGCBM).

How to get enrolled:

Send a formal application to the Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) after seeking necessary clearance(s) and recommendation from the unit. DGR will release the screened list before the course starts. Check the eligibility criteria before starting the formal procedure.
